Attribute Mapping

Mapping in Data Cloud acts like a bridge, connecting your data Source to the system. It ensures information from external sources, like files or databases, ends up in the right fields. For instance, you can map a “Name” field from your source to “Customer Name” in Data Cloud, or link “Birth Date” to “Date of Birth.” This setup creates a unified customer profile by syncing with your CRM efficiently.
There is a standard set of Profile fields in Data Cloud with which you can do the mapping. If your requirements go beyond the standard set, you can introduce Custom Profile Fields. These are tailored tags that you create to match your specific needs. These Custom Profile Fields can then be mapped to the corresponding CRM object fields. To ensure that there are no duplicates and that the updates are made to the correct customer profile, Data Cloud uses Unique Identifiers in mapping fields.
Important
The data is retrieved from the CRM only according to the field mappings that you create. For example, if you mapped the Primary Email Address Profile Field in Data Cloud with the customer email object in CRM, the data retrieval exclusively pulls email-related information based on this mapping only.
Now, let’s look at the step-by-step process of mapping fields with a use case.
