Create Child Entity

Step-by-Step Instructions

You can create child entities and their attributes using Data Model.

To create a child entity in Data Model, follow these steps:

1. Click Data Model on the left navigation pane. The parent and child entities are displayed here. The Entities dropdown menu lists all the available entities. By default, the All option is selected displaying all the system and custom parent and child entities.

   

2. Click Add Entity.

3. In the pop-up, type the required entity name in the Name field and the purpose of the entity in the Description field.

   Note:

   An entity name cannot contain spaces and allows only hyphen and underscore special characters.

4. Click Create. The child entity is created successfully.

Update or Delete Entity

Follow these steps to update or delete entity:

1. Click Edit Entity.

   The Edit Entity window is displayed.
   

2. Edit the description of the required entity.

3. To delete a custom entity, click against the entity. A notification message is displayed.

4. Click Delete. A confirmation message is displayed.

   Note:

   You cannot delete an entity that is mapped to a source, destination, or a segment. You must remove all the mappings associated with an entity before deleting it.

5. Change the Default Sorting and Sorting Order selections as required. The following section provides details of the unique characteristics of the Default Sorting and Sorting Order dropdown lists.

6. Click Save.

Note:

• You cannot edit the name of the entities.

• Use the search box to search for an entity.

Default Sorting and Sorting Order — Key Behaviors

1. The Edit Entity window displays the Profile entity at the top of the entity list. Click Save to accept the display setting. To sort the list in the ascending or descending alphabetical order, click the Name column heading.

2. The Default Sorting dropdown list includes all the attributes associated with the selected entity. However, for the Profile entity, the Default Sorting list includes First Name, Last Name, State, and Profile Update Time in addition to attributes that are marked as unique identifiers.

3. For those entities that do not have a default Sorting Order, the Sorting Order dropdown list is disabled until you select an option in Default Sorting.

4. For the Profile entity, the Default Sorting dropdown list displays Last Name as the default selection and the Sorting Order dropdown list displays Ascending as the default selection. Attributes with String or Integer data type have Ascending as the Sorting Order by default. If data type of the attribute is date or date time, Descending is set as the default Sorting Order.

   Note:

   This selection is not saved automatically. It is only a pre-defined option for you to save if required.

5. For the Interaction custom entity, the Default Sorting dropdown list displays Interaction Start as the default selection and the Sorting Order dropdown list displays Descending as the default selection. Interaction Start is displayed as the first column in the Interaction page under the Activity tab in the Profile details section. You can, however, update these settings in the Edit Entity window.

6. The Profiles home page displays the profiles list according to the selection in the Default Sorting and Sorting Order dropdown lists.
   For example, if you select email and descending as the Default Sorting and Sorting Order respectively. And suppose there is a profile with the name Zach having an email id zxcv@abc.com. And that there is no other profile with email address that starts with z. Then the Profile home page displays Zach’s profile on the top of the list. The other entries in the Profile home page are sorted in the reverse alphabetical order of the email addresses.

7. If the selected attribute is masked for PII in the Profile entity, the Profile home page is sorted by Profile ID in the alphabetical order.

8. If the selected attribute is masked for PII in the Interaction entity, the attributes under the Activity tab are sorted by ID in the alphabetical order.
