How Masking Reflects in the UI
- DarkLight
Attributes and their corresponding values are displayed in the UI based on the interplay between the Show in Profile and Mask on Screen toggles.
The following table details the interplay between the toggles.
Show in Profile Toggle Status | Mask on Screen Toggle Status | UI Result |
|---|---|---|
Off | Off | The attribute is not displayed on the Profile details page. |
On | Off | The attribute is displayed on the Profile details page. However, the attribute value appears empty if the value is unavailable. |
Off | On | The attribute is not displayed on the Profile details page. |
On | On | The attribute appears, but the corresponding value is replaced with asterisks (****) on the Profile details page. The asterisks are displayed even if the attribute value is unavailable. |
UI Appearance
Consider you want to mask the value of the Age attribute because Age is a PII. You activate both the Show in Profile and Mask on Screen toggles. As a result, the masked value appears as shown in the following screenshot.
Suppose you want to remove the Age attribute from the Profile details page using data masking. In this scenario, you activate the Mask on Screen toggle while the Show in Profile toggle is de-activated. As a result, the Age attribute is not displayed in the UI.
