PII Data Masking

Entities that you create in Data Cloud may contain attributes with personally identifiable information (PII). To meet data-handling requirements and keep sensitive fields protected, you can mask the PII data at the attribute level in the Profile details section (including the Overview tab and the Activity tab) in two unique ways:

1. Replace the selected attribute value with four star-shaped symbols, also known as asterisks (****).

2. Hide the selected attribute from being displayed as part of an entity.

Notes:

• The PII data masking feature applies to both System Entities and Custom Entities.

• PII data masking is not applicable for internal operations.

How PII Data Masking Works

The PII data masking feature includes the following three toggles against each attribute in an Entity:

• Show in Profile – Shows the attribute and the corresponding attribute value in the Profile details page.

• Mask on Screen – Masks the attribute value in the Profile details page that includes the Overview tab and the Activity tab.

• Mask in Data Export – Removes masked attributes during API transactions.

Note:

Masking is not available for the System Timestamp attributes in Profile and custom entities.
