    Article summary

Segmentation is the process of grouping customers with similar characteristics or behaviors. Segments in Data Cloud let you create focused groups from your larger dataset based on the criteria you choose. Consider it to zoom in on specific parts of your data for more targeted insights and actions. For example, you could set up a Segment for customers under 30 years old or those living in a specific zip code.

Here you create segments using the Include and Exclude conditional operators. Once created, the segmented profiles are displayed in the Audience Details tab.

    Logical Operators and Filters

When defining segment rules, you use logical operators like OR and AND to include or exclude profiles based on specific criteria.

    Here’s how they work:

    • OR: If you use OR, only one of the conditions needs to be fulfilled for the rule to apply.

    • AND: If you use AND, all conditions must be met for the rule to apply.

These logical operators are used between rules within a rule set as well as between multiple rule sets.

For example, if you set a rule for Profiles where Country is equal to India.

If you choose AND as the operator, and then add another rule set using OR to specify City is equal to Chennai or City is equal to Bangalore, the final filter will include profiles where the country is India and the city is either Chennai or Bangalore.
