    Article summary

An SMS Short Code is a special, shortened phone number used for sending and receiving SMS messages. Short codes are typically five to six digits long and are easier for customers to remember. They are used for high-volume messaging, such as marketing campaigns, notifications, or customer service interactions. The combination of a short code and an SMS to a phone number must be unique. Using the same short code, a second SMS cannot be sent to the same number from the same or a different campaign if a session already exists. In such cases, the application utilizes the other Short Codes, if mapped.

To configure an SMS Short Code, perform the following steps:

    1. Click Create Short Code Configuration to add a new short code configuration to the system.

    2. Enter the Name for Short Code to identify the short code configuration in the system. This is a required field and must be unique.

    3. Enter the Short Code that will be used to send and receive SMS messages. This is a required field and must be unique.

    4. Enter the Data Code, which represents a specific campaign, service, or application associated with the short code.

    5. Activate or deactivate the Is Short Code option

      1. Turn this on if the configuration involves a short code.

      2. Turn this off if the configuration does not use a short code.

    6. Activate or deactivate the Use Different Short Code for Incoming option. Turn this on if a different short code or number is used for incoming messages. If activated:

      1. Enter the Incoming Number to receive incoming messages. This is a required field.

      2. Enter the Keyword associated with this incoming number, such as HELP or INFO, which allows the system to trigger specific actions or workflows. This is a required field.

    7. Click Save to finalize and store the configuration.
